The rewagi® eyelet glider is made of the technical plastic POM (polyoxymethylene).

Material description – Polyoxymethylene (POM)

Polyoxymethylene (POM) is a highly crystalline thermoplastic polymer that is used especially for precise, mechanically stressed components.

Chemical structure and composition

POM has a linear polymer structure consisting of repeating –CH₂–O– units.

(chemical formula: (CH₂O)ₙ).

The material exhibits a high crystallinity of approximately 75–85%, which is largely responsible for its high strength, stiffness and dimensional stability.

Variants of POM

Basically, a distinction is made between two types of materials:

POM homopolymer

High crystallinity and very good mechanical properties.

POM copolymer

Improved thermal stability and impact resistance, especially at elevated temperatures.

In industrial applications, stabilized POM compounds are commonly used, which contain additives such as antioxidants, UV stabilizers and thermostabilizers to increase long-term stability.
